About us

What we do

The North Shore Branch sponsors more than 60 events during the year, including summer excursions, meetings and lectures, and monthly study groups that focus on a variety of topics, including arts and antiques, literature, film, perspectives (modern issues), and travel.  We also have a political action group working to advance women’s issues while remaining non-partisan.  In addition, we offer special events, support the Education Funds of AAUW and the Legal Advocacy Fund, and work with local colleges on projects of mutual interest.

Who we are

Each of our members holds an associate’s or equivalent degree or a higher degree from a qualified institution and shares our mission to promote equity for all women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.

North Shore Branch members hail from numerous communities on Long Island, including Roslyn, Port Washington, Great Neck, Manhasset, Westbury, Glen Cove, Floral Park, Greenvale, Albertson, Old Brookville, East Williston, Garden City, Jericho, Old Bethpage, Mineola, Carle Place, Oyster Bay, East Meadow, Plandome, and New Hyde Park, and several sections of Queens, such as Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Forest Hills, Flushing, Rego Park, Jamaica, and Whitestone.

Where we fit in AAUW

The North Shore Branch is part of District 6 of the New York State AAUW.   The New York State president is Mary Lou Davis, a member of the Poughkeepsie Branch, and the New York State coordinator for District 6 is Erna Cunningham.
